Donna Holman has done in her state what few others have been able to do;
challenge the norm. For that she is being treated to a full
complement of judicial misconduct.
Iowa City is almost a two hour drive
from Keokuk, IA, where Donna Holman lives, with her husband and
co-sidewalk counselor Dan Holman. Each week, for years, Donna and
Dan have made their way to Iowa City's Planned Parenthood facility
to advocate for the humanity of the preborn children being
"terminated" there. This, to most people, is an odd and
intrusive thing, given the "private and difficult choice involved."
To Holman, if it's about choice, "why doesn't the child get a
choice?" That's a question the vast majority of people Holman
encounters don't want to answer. Some, however, do face the
implications of the question and change their minds.
These words on the sidewalk mostly just
ruffle feathers, but every once in a while someone takes action to
try and rid themselves of Donna Holman. This little grandmother in
her early 70s is slow moving, persistent and dogged in her
determination to be heard "for the babies," as she says.
One can understand the desire for
Planned Parenthood to not have this sort of distraction in front of
their entry way, but it is difficult to understand the sort of
(apparent) corrupt conspiracy between them, the City Police and the
courts. Maybe it isn't a conspiracy, but rather all parties are of
the same mind on the issue; and grandma Holman threatens them all
equally by her persistent call on behalf of the babies?
Donna Holman was convicted of a bogus
charge of "Harassment" during a normal sidewalk counseling
situation at Planned Parenthood in Iowa City, Iowa. Though video of
the purported altercation showed no harassment, Egerton found Donna
Holman guilty on the hearsay testimony of Planned Parenthood
employees.
Donna Holman was arrested on the morning of
November 1, 2006 shortly after Planned Parenthood's first abortion
appointments arrived.
The Jane Doe victim/witnesses whom Mrs.
Holman purportedly harassed were subpoenaed but did not show up for
court.
Judge Karen Egerton accepted the hearsay testimony of
Planned Parenthood employees in lieu of the "victims"
testimony. She rejected defendant's video evidence which showed no
harassment took place
Though Mrs. Holman has a constitutional
right to confront her witnesses, the Iowa Supreme Court, without
explanation, denied her application for discretionary review. Donna
Holman does not have the financial means to take her case to Federal
Court.
Mrs. Holman was given a 30 day suspended sentence
pending completion of a year's probation and getting a psychiatric
evaluation and recommended meds. She was also given a permanent
injunction keeping her from ministering to abortion bound women at
Planned Parenthood.
The court received a psychological exam of
Donna Holman from a counselor licensed in California. Judge Egerton
insists that Mrs. Holman have a psychiatric exam by a psychiatrist
licensed in Iowa. She has further ordered Mrs. Holman to take
psychotic drugs if they are prescribed.
Donna Holman is
refusing to comply with the psychiatric exam and possible medication.
It is the view of UncleRaisin.com that
Judge Egerton and all others involved are making a mockery of their
public trust, by denying basic civil rights. Regardless of one's
view on the issues underlying this case, Mrs Holman has the right to
face her accusers, and to peaceably assemble to redress the
grievances to the most basic element of the government – the
people. Planned Parenthood, the City of Iowa City, and most of all
the courts MUST act rightly and without prejudice toward Mrs Donna
Holman. To do otherwise is a travesty.
