1st Assembly of God & WQFL's Association with Abortionists

There is a specific breach of the public trust occurring in Rockford, Illinois. In particular, we observe in Rockford First Assembly of God guided by "Lead Pastor" Jeremy DeWeerdt,1 a particular sin of omission. First Assembly owns two radio stations, WQFL and WGSL, and accepts advertising dollars from a hospital that permits an abortionist to remain on staff without revealing the fact to the public. WQFL is managed by Mark Brynteson, who has oversight of sales manager Nick Guzzardo.

An abortionist by the name of Dennis Christensen conducts his misdeeds at a facility in Rockford known as the Northern Illinois Women's Center (NIWC). When the abortionist does harm to a woman and he is in need of some "back-up," he takes her to SwedishAmerican Hospital. It is not known whether or not any injured women whom Abortionist Christensen may have brought to SwedishAmerican were victims of rape, incest, or pedophilia. Nor is it known whether there are lawsuits pending. It may well be that a 30-year abortionist has gained skill in "terminating" babies without maiming their mothers.

What IS known is that rather than expose the crimes (as defined by the laws of the state of Illinois and regardless of the opinions of a few U.S. Supreme Court Justices) of Abortionist Christensen and his respectable staff position at SwedishAmerican, the local Christian radio stations take advertising dollars from the Hospital as if there were nothing amiss!

WQFL and WGSL are Rockford's Christian radio stations owned by First Assembly. They represent themselves to the community as being thoroughly and enthusiastically "pro-life." In their "News Brief "of September 17, 2006, announcing the annual "Life chain," for example, First Assembly announces: "Please keep in your prayers the 30-50 children who die each week at Rockford's abortion clinic." This position is consistent with the rest of the Assemblies of God across the country and the world. But somehow they do not find their association with abortion to be an offense!

Moreover, they have announced their principled loss of advertising dollars through their refusal of ads from liquor-selling establishments, but will not deny advertising from an accomplice to abortion. Nor will they even expose to their listening audience the simple fact that an abortionist has a staff position at a hospital patronized by their pro-life Christian listeners!

Pastor DeWeerdt believes "the local church should be reaching out in every area of the community to make an impact with Christ-like love and compassion." And it is said of him that he has a "deep compassion for those far from faith."2 Whether that compassion includes children yet trapped in the womb remains to be seen. No mention has been made of any change in policy with the installation of the new Pastor DeWeerdt. He grew up in the church and has been on staff since 1993.

We are all involved with abortion in unavoidable ways. Our very government takes our tax dollars and gives them to those who commit abortion. But may we not be informed of such deeds as those of SwedishAmerican so that we may more intelligently choose to patronize either of the other hospitals which have avoided doing business with the abortionist? Listeners are solicited by WQFL to donate money to the station or patronize their advertisers under false pretenses? Simply put: the station takes advertising from a hospital which facilitates abortion while representing itself to be a prolife organization.
