UPDATE: Guilty of Free Speech at Liberty Bell
What kind of contradiction
could possibly sully the heritage that Philadelphia
and the Liberty Bell more than the juxtaposition of the plaque below and what
is happening now to Michael Marcavage.
Please read and do something.
The plaque above is on display by the PA Historical and Museum Commission on the
site of the Liberty Bell.
MARCAVAGE FOUND
"GUILTY" FOR PREACHING NEAR THE LIBERTY
BELL
(RA) - On Friday, June 13, 2008 in the case of United
States of America vs. Michael A. Marcavage, U.S. Magistrate Judge Arnold C.
Rapoport found Repent America (RA) director Michael
Marcavage "guilty" for preaching to those waiting in line
to see the Liberty Bell. Marcavage had been arrested by the National Park
Service in October of last year for continuing to preach on public property
after refusing to move to a so-called "free speech zone," and then charged
under the Code of Federal Regulations.
During Repent America's annual pro-life evangelism tour on
October 6, 2007, RA was reaching out to those visiting the Liberty Bell and
Independence Hall with the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ as park
rangers continuously harassed the ministry team for refusing to relocate to a
"free speech zone". While preaching against America's
toleration of abortion and on repentance from sin to those waiting in line at
the Liberty Bell
Center at Independence National
Historical Park,
Marcavage was arrested on the public sidewalk just outside the building that
houses the bell.
Click
here to watch video footage of the
arrest.
"In a land that tolerates the killing of unborn children,
it is not surprising that we find ourselves in a continual battle for our
freedoms. When the church is silent as the most helpless among us have
their beating hearts stopped at the hands of abortionists, then we do not
deserve liberty," stated Repent America director Michael Marcavage.
"Although we do not deserve the blessings of liberty that God has bestowed upon
our nation, we must be good stewards by working to preserve and
utilize them to help bring an end to the abortion holocaust," Marcavage
continued. "In Philadelphia
- the birthplace of American freedom - we will, as the Scripture-inscribed
Liberty Bell declares, 'Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the
inhabitants thereof' (Leviticus 25:10) regardless of the efforts to
silence us," Marcavage concluded.
Under the direction of Ian Crane, chief ranger of Independence
National Historical Park, supervising ranger Alan Saperstein repeatedly approached
Marcavage to demand that he and the ministry team move to a "free speech zone"
on the other side of the Liberty Bell Center, which was nowhere near those
entering or exiting. Adding insult to absurdity, Saperstein stated that in the
future that RA would need to obtain a written permit to even speak in the "free
speech zone," but given a "verbal permit" to go there for the day, which
Marcavage refused, citing that constitutional protections were sufficient. When
it became apparent that Marcavage was not going to yield to the
unconstitutional demands, Saperstein arrested Marcavage and ordered the other
members of the ministry team off the public sidewalks. Ironically, Marcavage
was then physically escorted into the Liberty Bell Center for questioning and
charged with violating the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 36, § 1.6 Permits
(g)(2), which states that he violated the terms and conditions of a
"verbal permit" - a permit that Marcavage never accepted, nor is such
a permit even listed under the regulations. Subsequently, Marcavage
was issued a citation nearly six months later by certified mail
concerning the same matter for violating the Code of Federal
Regulations, Title 36, § 2.32 (g)(1) + (2), which states that he was
"interfering with agency functions" by preaching and ministering to
people on the public sidewalk.
Yesterday, the trial resumed from April 22, 2008 and ended with Judge
Rapoport finding Michael Marcavage "guilty" on both
charges. Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Goldberg argued that
Marcavage's defense was "propaganda" and that he was a "clear
and present danger" and asked the judge to send a message not only
to Marcavage, but to anyone who would dare stand on public
property and share their beliefs without government permission.
Judge Rapoport fined Marcavage $445, including costs, and put
him on probation for one year in which he is not permitted
to enter the park, or be on the public sidewalks surrounding the
park for any reason without first notifying park authorities, nor can he
return to engage in free speech activities without first obtaining a permit,
and only then in the designated "free speech zone".
Directly following the trial, Marcavage was escorted by U.S.
Marshals to be booked for his "crimes". The case is in the
process of being appealed, and RA will be challenging these unconstitutional
restrictions by filing for an injunction in federal court.

Kutztown Blues in the Red
When the preachers came to town and President Cevallos had them arrested way back on April of 2007, they did not know that President Cevallos, with this $202,595 per year salary, was working for a University suffering financial woes. They just came to campus to do, at no charge, what they believed they were commissioned by God to do: preach the Word. They did not know that the Early Learning Center (a virtual on campus nursery) was about to be eliminated and that faculty members had the size of their classes tripled over the previous half-dozen years. They just came to preach the word to an audience of students who presumably are in time in their lives when they study and think about matters of philosophy, religion, and ethics. And so they preached about those things, especially those relevant subjects of death and sex. They did not know that president's career was on the rocks as sometimes happens in such circumstances. Or did it fall hard on hard times after he opposed those who preached about the Rock? Certainly the legal fees which the University must pay out following the suspension of the campus police officer for failing to arrest the preachers did not ingratiate President Cevallos with the provost officer and others. Nor did the legal fees paid out in consequence of the lawsuits filed following the arresting of the preachers help move the University out of the red. Faculty union president Dr. Michael D. Gambone will call for a no-confidence vote against Cevallos at the faculty meeting at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 31 in the Student Union Building. Should a decision be made to take an official vote from the union, that vote "would take place at a meeting of 75 department representatives, which is set for 3:15 p.m. Feb. 14 on campus" ("Kutztown University trustees affirm support for president," Reading Eagle, January 25, 2008). When the storms of life - or the judgment of God - blow, it is not a sign of good leadership to cast about for someone to blame, especially when some fault is to be found in the leader. In his September 24, 2007 letter to "Students, faculty and staff," President Cevallos said of the preachers: Some of the visitors select college campuses because the sponsoring groups seek confrontation and the ensuing publicity. What often follows is a lawsuit charging that the demonstrators' civil liberties have been violated. It is nothing but slander to impute such motives to those who come to preach. On what grounds does he accuse them of seeking "confrontation and the ensuing publicity"? On what grounds does he blame them for the lawsuit which he brought upon the University by his own unjust directive to a more Constitutionally wise campus policeman who disobeyed his unjust command? The lack of confidence seems to be well earned. And Kutztown, foundering in the red, is singing the blues.

Marcavage at the Liberty Bell
Michael Marcavage issued a press release on 7 January, 2008: "Liberty on Trial Again in Philadelphia"i which reported upon another encounter with police. It seems that Pennsylvania authorities, mindless of their civil foundations and laws yet on the books, are continuing to harass gospel preachers - purely and simply stated. We recounted Kutztown University President Cevallos's call for the arrest of the Christian preachers on 18 April, 2007. On August 20, 2007, we posted a blog about "'Diversity' Propaganda," which reported on law enforcement training in arresting preachers by conditioning the officers to view preachers in a disfavorable light. The cost of this "diversity" and "sensitivity" training is defrayed by grant money supplied by the Home Land Security Department.ii The specifically offensive government action is this:
The training given to the campus police involves role-playing by which a policeman plays the role of a homosexual who is being harassed by "intolerant bigots" - Christians. In this fashion he can learn how to be sensitive to the abused group and to be more understanding of the need to arrest the "hater." Repent America was named as "hot group," a cause of conflict, which the university might need to remove to keep the peace.iii
It is in Philadelphia the same bigotry expressed against Christians by the police that was observed in Kutztown University. Do they have the same trainers in "diversity" and "tolerance"?
Here is what happened according to the Repent America press release: "While preaching against America's toleration of abortion and on repentance from sin to those waiting in line at the Liberty Bell Center, Marcavage was arrested on the public sidewalk just outside the building that houses the bell." The effort to suppress the speech of Gospel preachers has become quite sophisticated. As the press release indicated, the supervising ranger of Independence National Historical Park, Alan Saperstein, "repeatedly approached Marcavage to demand that he and the ministry team move to a ‘free speech zone' on the other side of the Liberty Bell Center, which was nowhere near those entering or exiting." By this police order the speaker was being denied public access to the very audience whom he had come to address in the public square. This would not fly in court, ostensibly, so the legal maneuver taken by the ranger (under someone's obviously strategic guidance) was to extend a false authority over the speaker in order to regulate him. A temporary "verbal permit" was offered to the speaker for that day only with the claim that thereafter a written permit would be required before resuming such speech outside the Liberty Bell in Independence National Historical Park. The strategy was apparently designed to induce the voluntary surrender of fundamental speech rights. And as such it was really nothing less than a naked assault upon those sacred rights. We can speculate why this is. Liberals loathe anti-sodomy and -abortion speech as much or more than Clinton loathed the military. Our free speech laws and principles are difficult even for the more ardent suppressor of the Gospel to quench. Moreover, those in law enforcement tend to be the more conservative and true Constitutionally minded people in contrast to the Leftist who wants to advance his concept of "liberty (to fornicate and sodomize) for all" even above the bigot's right to contrary free speech. So these officers need to be conditioned so that they can more easily obey orders to make illegal arrests. There are precious few Christian preachers like Michael Marcavage publicly addressing the sins of the nation. And there are even fewer patriots like Cpl. Armbruster, who refused back on 18 April, 2007, to arrest the preachers in the Kutztown case, on the belief that the order was unlawful. Labels: Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Blog Files
Uncle Raisin visits KU
Kutztown, PA
First, let me respond to the memo statements by President Cevallos from September 24, about "demonstrators" on campus. As Cevallos suggests:
http://www.kutztown.edu/about/presidential/statements/letters/demonstrations.aspx
"Following any other course of action gives the demonstrators exactly what they seek: confrontation, publicity, and lawsuit potential."
How does he know this? To the allegation of confrontation, I am confused why he would conclude this. When has this ever been problematic? Publicity? Surely, if Cevallos would have known the individuals as I did, he would know they all bore their own expense and went on their tour (KU being one of their stops) prayerfully and with demonstrable concern for those to whom they sought to minister. If results are any indicator, the "lawsuit potential" that supposedly crowns the groups motives, should be rethought as a business technique. Does Cevallos know how much monetary gain has resulted from any law suit? Has anyone from the group ever brought suit where there was not cause? For those times that suit has been brought, has it been a reasonable, or the only, course of action available? Even still, If Cevallos knew the answers to these questions he wouldn't draw the conclusion that implies a derogatory image of the "protestors."
Secondly, it is my observation that this group is not properly labeled as "demonstrators" (or "protestors"). A "demonstrator" is AGAINST something; while this group seeks to exalt ideals, and advocated FOR, among other things, the humanity of the preborn children that are killed by abortion. This is a distinction that sheds a critical light on what the officials at KU are trying to do. Cevallos, and his associates, obfuscate and, with vice, wrongly paint the visitors as villains.
This obfuscation leads me to my past point. What happened to the mantra;
"I may not agree with you, but I will fight for your right to say it?"
It is no wonder to this writer why KU (and by extension, Cevallos) has received a red light rating by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), see
http://www.thefire.org/index.php/schools/1391?PHPSESSID= for details. The only experience I need to point to as affirmation of my point of view is the removal of most of the flyers I placed on cars in the parking lot drawing attention to this case story. Why the need to remove a flyer when the courts have stated over and over again that is legal expressive activity guaranteed by the 1st Amendment? Just what is Cevallos and KU afraid of?

"Diversity" Means Do Not Tolerate Christian Preachers
Kutztown, PA
Because most of the current students weren't even born by March 15, 1986, they will think the first time preachers were arrested on campus occurred this past April 18 - not true.
March 15, 1986, Kutztown University: Arrest the Christian Preachers.
On March 15, 1986, Valerie Hildebeitel, reported in The Morning Call that two men were arrested for "harassing" students. She cited a complaint by a Jew who felt "excluded." Indeed, the Message the preachers bring is that folks who go to hell are "excluded" from heaven. Is this doctrine "excluded" by the "diversity" doctrine?
In fact, the doctrine preached by the Christians on campus is not simply one of exclusion of the wicked from heaven. There is much more, however, we'll save that for another time (too much Christian ethics might overload the modern reader.)
One of the two men who preached the Message was Scott Catino. He earned a doctorate in 2003 at The University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg. His thesis was on Italian Americans and the fascist experience in the United States from 1922-1941. One can imagine the inspiration he must have had from his experience with the anti-Christian fascism of Kutztown. It was alive in 1986, and it is still alive today.
Kutztown University: Where Truth and People Get Snuffed Out
Prior to the Kyle Quinn murder, the last murder in town had occurred back in 1982. The one previous to that was in 1968. There had never been a Kutztown student murdered. In the face of these recent student tragedies, we must look at the responsibility of the University leadership and the atmosphere they set (think "Thirsty Thursday's").
A December 19, 2005 press release from the F.B.I reported on crime rates from January to June of that year, noting an increase in murder rates in smaller towns: Reported instances of murder increased 2.1 percent nationwide, with the largest increase (13 percent) in cities having fewer than 10,000 inhabitants...
Maybe this is part of a small town trend. If this trend is the result of "tolerance" and "diversity", I'm moving to the big city! However, that would be the easy way out, and wouldn't solve anything. We say, LET'S TAKE OUR CULTURE BACK!!! After all, the current message of "tolerance" and "diversity" has been inculcated into the big city culture much longer than in small town America. For us, taking the culture back involves public heralding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Kyle Quinn: 19 Years Young, murdered by Beating
Kyle Quinn's murderers were apprehended and are being held on $10 million bond each, having beaten young Kyle to death on September 7, 2007. Having completed an autopsy, and awaiting toxicology reports, no cause of death is evident, and no motive for the murder can be found. It is being called "Random violence."
"Random?" Hmmmmmmm... The murderers were in a drunken state, and decided for some reason (rational or not) to beat this young man senseless. Random, has always seemed like a cop-out answer to me. All actions come from some motive. All actions are rooted in some thinking. Are we so reticent to simply call murder "evil" that we white-wash it and sanitize it in the language of "random?" Let's just call it what it is - EVIL.
Christopher Reynolds: Killed on Train Tracks
Even though Christopher Reynolds was not murdered, the motive for his death is still important to understand. His death is a metaphor: so intoxicated he can't see the danger speeding toward him. Why would a bright young man engage in such dangerous and harmful behavior as to drink himself into a stupor and engage in a fight with a train?
William Shehata: Accidental Death on I-80
William J. Shehata, 20, of Scranton was killed Aug. 19 when the sport utility vehicle in which he was riding skidded out of control on a rain-slicked section of Interstate 80 in Lamar Township, Clinton County, according to the Centre Daily Times of State College.
Recent Deaths: 2004 - 2006
Eight Kutztown University students died in 2006, five in 2005, and six in 2004, mostly in vehicle crashes.
Preachers Hold the Answers
The current philosophy on Kutztown's campus is to live for self. Indeed, there's nothing bigger than you. "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die" (for some, literally). While we feel sorrow, and mourn for fellow students and friends lost, let's be reminded that these actions are the consequence of thinking - they come from someplace. Is it possible to learn from them and not consider the Gospel message that is being driven off of campus? We think not. It is an old message in a new age. It is a message that preaches self sacrifice instead of self-indulgence. It is a message that preaches others are more important than self - Christ's actions exemplary. Indeed, this message holds the remedy and hope for our times.
The Atmosphere Created by the University
Just like on April 18, when Christian gospel preachers (sponsored by Repent America) were arrested and driven off of campus, so too were ministers from California-based Survivors threatened with arrest, on Monday, September 24, 2007.
This time, the preachers were surrounded by a group of "tolerant" bigots, which carried umbrellas and opened them up to block out the Message. Moreover, campus Police Chief Mioskie urged the Survivor group to leave, suggesting they had no right to be on the property, and declared that he would consult with a district attorney concerning the lawfulness of making arrests, according to Kortney Blythe, spokesman for Survivors.
President Cevallos, Good Cop - Deryl Johnson, Bad Cop
In a letter to students, faculty and staff, written Sept 24, 207, President Cevallos acknowledges: "...regardless of whether we agree, as individuals or community, with the demonstrators' messages - (KU) recognizes the Constitutional rights of all parties." Contrast Presidents Cevallos' (good-cop) posture with the KU Daily Brief for September 25 by Prof Deryl Johnson (bad-cop):
"Were you curious about the use of umbrellas on campus on Monday? Would you like to learn how someone can respond non-violently and non-confrontationally to outside groups protesting on campus? Come hear Blaise Liffick and Alanna Berger speak about the Silent Witnesses Program in PA on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 4:30 p.m. in 203 Academic Forum."
Leah M. Cassellia, Associate Director, S.U.I.S. (more bad-cop?)
"Where Free Speech Ends and Harassment Begins" Angry? Confused when outsiders come to campus with their signs and bullhorns? Get informed and prepared. Join the Kutztown University community for a discussion about the best ways to handle campus protests on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union Multipurpose Room. Presented by Brett A. Sokolow, J.D., risk management consultant, author and higher education attorney.
Now a consultant is needed; to do what? Didn't Cevallos just say the Preachers have a right to be on campus? Even so, we have to ask why Chief Mioskie urged the Survivor group to leave? Perhaps he was still operating under the illusion that Cevallos administered last April, and that he is using Johnson and Cassellia to administer now. Free Speech at KU? Nah! Not yet. Apparently there hasn't been enough students meet their maker yet for Cevallos to take his high calling seriously. President Cevallos, stop the hypocrisy! Labels: Kutztown Blog Files, Pennsylvania
"Diversity" Propaganda
Kutztown, PA A source employed by the Kutztown University who spoke to UncleRaisin.com on condition of anonymity advises that the University has been training the campus police in "diversity" and "sensitivity" training paid for by a grant from Home Land Security Department. Understandably, security has been increased in the wake of 9-11 and the Virginia Tech murders. However, the training focuses errantly upon the wrong causes when it seeks to prevent "violence." The supposition is that the promotion "tolerance" is the key to peace on campus. (The ethical framework defining good and evil is left to the imagination or, rather, the guidance of the tolerance mongers who hold to no Commandment from God and therefore cannot discriminate between right and wrong.) "Diversity" is a buzz word that suggests to the generally liberal mind that it is good and right to treat all kinds of people (from all places of the world with its varying racial variety and mixes) respectfully with the dignity and rights afforded to human beings because of well, and this is where the liberal mind trips up the fact that human beings are created in the image of God. The problem is that the modern "liberal" is also an atheist, politically speaking. He does not believe that the God of the West (the God of Christianity) has revealed Law which a modern body politic ought to acknowledge. The political arena is believed, by this ideology, to be off limits to God and His Law. Diversity then involves not simply the doctrine that all races of human beings qua humans possess inherent dignity. Rather, the concept is wrenched and reshaped to apply to behavior and allegedly immutable characteristics (viz. sexual incontinence or deviancy). Moreover, and prior on the evolving social time-chart, distinction is sexual roles are also abolished for the sake of radical egalitarian principles extrapolated from this wrenched doctrine of human dignity. A case in point is the fact that most of the violence which erupts at the University proceeds out of the dances where an observer can witness "gangsta rap," simulated sexual activity, nearly naked dancers, participants with drugs in their pockets, and drunk DJs. This morally degenerate and immoral behavior is not censured but tolerated in the name of "diversity," "sensitivity," and "tolerance." Since the University has no moral standard which finds fornication and lascivious behavior to be immoral, it must tolerate such perversion. Ethical concerns are shifted to enforce the First of the new Commandments, "Thou shalt respect all the gods," and second, like unto the first, "Thou shalt tolerate . . . (any form of sexual deviancy)." The new moralizing is a matter of teaching students to tolerate what is Immoral and to be intolerant of any one who Moralizes against another. The new morality supplants the old. Christian sexual Morality is to be kept in the closet. Perversion must be brought out of the closet and respected. In the diversity and sensitivity training the class is guided to the goal of reducing "bigotry" (read: Christian opposition to sexual immorality). The training given to the campus police involves role-playing by which a policeman plays the role of a homosexual who is being harassed by "intolerant bigots" - Christians. In this fashion he can learn how to be sensitive to the abused group and to be more understanding of the need to arrest the "hater." Repent America was named as "hot group," a cause of conflict, which the university might need to remove to keep the peace. A training segment designed by the Department of Justice designates Repent America, specifically, as "a fundamentalist hate group." The seminar leader directed the class in the goal of removing the "hot group" from the seen in order to keep the peace and resolve the "conflict." While participating in one of these training sessions, Cpl. Armbruster was observed to stand up and object, declaring, "I have had enough of this. They have a right to be there." Whence comes this "Diversity" Training? The National Coalition Building Institute (www.ncbi.org) is one of the training organizations contracted to train campus officials. Both Robert Watrous, Director of Judicial Affairs and Campus Chief of Police Bill Mioskie are certified by NCBI and have trained police and other administrators. The three "core principles" are 1) addressing "diversity issues" and the elimination of "prejudice and discrimination" which includes "prejudice" on the basis of "sexual orientation"; 2) providing personal testimony from those victimized by "racist and other prejudicial attitudes" [emphasis ours and let the reader understand the reference to be to those who believe sodomy is immoral behavior] in order to build sympathy and promote alliances between sympathizers and the victim; 3) respect for those leaders who promulgate these principles. The University's Code of Civility1 binds students to commit to the essentially same philosophy preached by the NCBI. The Code of Civility calls all students to a "code of appropriate behavior." The reader is never give a definition of "appropriate behavior" but the effort to describe it is laced with the familiar buzzwords straight out of the lexicon of the Left: diversity, acceptance, bigotry, harassment, prejudice. Gone from the "code" is any semblance of the four cardinal classical and Christian virtues, viz. temperance, prudence, justice, and fortitude. And even if these ancient virtues were resurrected, their meaning would be ever changing, evolving with the Left's neo-pagan ethics. To speak of a code without any reference to a divine Law is to speak of tyranny. Appeals to "diversity," "acceptance," and "prejudice" beg the question; "By what standard?" Are those who call for "tolerance" and "acceptance" and who denounce "prejudice" applying this principle to Communists, Nazis, Aztecs, and KKK wizards? By what standard these ideologues to be judged? By what standard is a Leftist to be judged? And so the University, which does not even believe in the concept the One Truth from which its very name derives, blows in the wind of whatever pop sociology and evolving "law" happens to be breathed out by the latest judicial appointees. And the judicial appointees get their ethics not from any divine Law but from whatever is in vogue. They divine from public opinion - especially as shaped by the "progressives," the political Left - that which seems "just," and so the begged question remains. The finally authority is the evolving opinions of people. It is not God, nor His Law. There is no transcendent, permanent Law or ethic. There is no enduring right or wrong. All ethics are in flux, like the evolving universe. Kutztown University's Code of Civility expects its students to pledge accordingly:
"I shall appreciate diversity and encourage its acceptance by others;
"I shall nourish the development of a society in which bigotry, harassment, prejudice, and hatred of any kind is not tolerated"2 The University's trendy embrace of "tolerance" says that it is in pursuit of a society in which "hatred" (how about of evil?) will not be tolerated. Surely good and justice cannot be loved without its opposite being hated. May the good students not be prejudiced against evildoers? And, if this be tolerable, which are the evildoers? Nazis? Cannibals? Race baters? Pedophiles? Pederasts? Catamites? Sodomites? Though the University's definition of good and evil is not clearly stated, it is easily inferred. An examination of the student organizations that it tolerates and promotes signifies its Lawlessness and its embrace of the Left's transitory moral code. The GLBTQ (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans-gender, and Questioning)3 student organization, listed as an official organization of Kutztown University, has two faculty members who serve as bona fide "allies" - what was formerly called a "sponsors" of the organization. Anke Walz and Dr. Deryl B. Johnson are faculty advisors who serve as "allies" seeking to enlist more of the same from the student and faculty population. "Allies is a group of concerned students, faculty and staff who are dedicated to providing a safe and cooperative environment for gay, lesbian and bisexual persons and their straight friends."4 This University-sponsored organization states one of its purposes to be to "increase" the "acceptance of GLBTH persons and issues and to create and insure cooperation and unity among the Kutztown University community." (Curiously, the "H" refers not to homosexsuals but to heterosexuals who wish to identify themselves as sympathetic "allies" in the achievement of the goals.) The fifth among the stated goals is: "Maintain a safe space environment to nurture and support student leadership development and campus activities to reduce homophobia."5 On the fair assumption that the University supports the organization which it houses in its Office of Human Diversity, it is fair to conclude that the University stands in support of this goal to suppress or reduce "homophobia."6 Those who hold the "old Christian ethic" which regards sodomy as an odious crime punishable by death according to the Scriptures (or castration according to, for example, the more liberal Thomas Jefferson7) must by discouraged in their beliefs so that they and their beliefs may be "reduced." notes: 1 http://www.thefire.org/pdfs/6be57553e37ec4d280f3d00f01c32b85.pdf (on site 19 June 2007).

6 The political neologism was invented as a propaganda tool of the avant-garde "homosexual rights" and has appeared as early as 1976 in the American Heritage Dictionary and defined as "fear of homosexuals or homosexuality." The employment of the term serves the purpose of shifting conventionally understood deviancy in the sodomite from him to the one who despises the loathsome practice and practitioner of sodomy. That which is still listed as a crime in most state law codes has been transformed into an "alternative lifestyle" against which critics thereof all manner of isolation and shunning is brought to bear by the authorities of academe.
7 Philip Kurland and Ralph Lerner,"A Bill for Proportioning Crimes and Punishments," The Founders' Constitution, (University of Chicago Press, 1987), vol. 5, Amendment VIII, doc. 10, p. 375. Jefferson's recommendation regarding Amendment VIII: "Whosoever shall be guilty of Rape, Polygamy, or Sodomy with man or woman shall be punished, if a man, by castration, if a woman, by cutting thro' the cartilage of her nose a hole of one half inch diameter at the least."
